We’ve all had that moment—when reality slaps you in the face, and you realize things have slid for too long. You decide it’s time to get your act together, or in more familiar terms…
“Time to get back on track.”
I’ve been there more times than I can count. Denial feels comfortable—until you snap out of it and see the damage.
I remember stepping on the scale after a long stretch of overindulging and ignoring my body. I saw a number that made my stomach drop. My first thought? “Okay, time to clean things up. No more sugar, no more eating out. Double the workouts.”
But here’s what nobody tells you:
When you say, “get back on track,” you might be jumping back into the exact same cycle that burned you out in the first place.
Here’s how I know:
Before “starting over,” did you go all-in on everything you’d soon have to “give up”?
Did you binge on treats, takeout, or lazy days because you believed you’d be restricting them starting tomorrow?
Did you justify a final hurrah of “fun” before getting “serious”?
That’s last chance syndrome. You figure it’s your last chance to enjoy those things before another round of restriction, obsession, and overworking begins.
But the real problem isn’t your willpower. It’s that your plan is broken.
If “getting back on track” means total restriction, obsessive tracking, or extreme workouts… you’re setting yourself up to fall off again.
Think about it:
Have you ever been on a plan that allowed zero flexibility or fun?
Did it make you dread social events, date nights, or normal life moments?
Did you think you were the problem—when in reality, the approach just wasn’t sustainable?
What you actually need isn’t more discipline. You need a plan that fits your real life—not one that makes you feel guilty for being human. A plan that doesn’t make you panic every time you indulge or feel like you have to “start over” every Monday.
The clients I work with don’t live in fear of messing up. They don’t panic when they eat a cookie or miss a workout. Why? Because their plan gives them the flexibility and freedom to make progress without all-or-nothing thinking.
No more on/off mindset. No more “wagon” to fall from. Just a sustainable, doable approach that fits you.
