It’s one of the biggest reasons people start to think, “Why bother? Nothing is working.”
It’s like making progress and feeling great, only to suddenly feel stuck and wonder if you’ll ever move forward again.
I’ve been there. Personally, I remember hitting those plateaus right when I was about to achieve a weight goal. I could almost taste success, but then days and weeks passed without progress.
I’d get frustrated and try to push harder—cutting back, doing more, or aiming for perfection. I thought, “This time, I’ll break through.”
But instead, I’d burn out. And the result? No progress. Just exhaustion, frustration, and feeling like giving up.
I didn’t realize back then that I was doing the exact wrong thing.
Plateaus aren’t failure—they’re just your body adapting to what you’re doing. And to move forward, you don’t need to work harder; you need to work smarter.
Here’s the key: send a new signal, not the same one but more extreme. For example:
Increase calories to maintenance for a few days or add extra rest days.
For my clients, I focus on strategies that reduce stress and create balance. Plateaus are often caused by too much training or under-eating. So instead of piling on more stress, we work to reset the system and signal “safety.”
Some of my favorite strategies include:
Adjusting macros, taking a deload week, or planning recovery time.
Integrating social events or rest days, while still making progress.
Creating a plan that fits my client’s unique lifestyle and goals.
What’s amazing is that when you take this approach, you can still make consistent, sustainable progress without sacrificing the things you love—your favorite foods, time with family, and flexibility.
