If you don’t have the dream body you want right now… then clearly, you must not want it bad enough.
Clearly, you’re not dedicated or committed.
That’s the kind of message I stumbled across recently. I was scrolling through instagram and saw several posts basically saying the same thing:
“If you want shredded body, you just need to want it badly enough and stay committed.”
First of all, kudos to those who’ve achieved a shredded physique. It’s not easy.
But you know what else it’s not?
Healthy.
And you know what that message isn’t?
Helpful.
In fact, I’d argue it does more harm than good.
Here’s why:
Getting your dream body doesn’t require perfection. It requires consistency and patience.
The shredded instagram influencers often set unrealistic expectations for the rest of us.
Having very low levels of body fat is not sustainable or healthy and will not bring you happiness or balance.
Sure, you could get shredded. But the question is: Do you actually want it?
It depends on what you’re truly committed to.
Are you committed to long-term health?
Or are you chasing an image or idea that doesn’t align with what’s really important to you?
Consider these alternatives:
What if you’re dedicated to family dinners and nights out with friends?
What if you’re committed to building habits that reduce stress, improve health, and increase happiness?
What if your focus was on longevity and balance rather than chasing an unrealistic ideal?
Why do we equate dedication and commitment with shredded abs?
It’s easy to scroll through instagram and feel inadequate. But let me tell you a secret: Those people showing off their shredded abs and claiming it’s all about “wanting it enough” are leaving out the full story.
Yes, you can achieve incredible things.
But every goal comes with trade-offs and sacrifices. The question is: Are those sacrifices worth it to you?
From my experience, the times I’ve been closest to having shredded abs, I’ve also been furthest from happiness.
The takeaway? Don’t lose sight of what truly matters to you.
Ask yourself:
Is this moving me closer to what I actually want?
Or is it taking me further away from the things that matter most?
If it’s not moving you closer, it might not be worth doing.
