“I’m doing everything right, but I’m not seeing any progress!”
Sound familiar?
I recently spoke to a friend who’s been trying to lose some weight and get toned, and she said, “I’m spending hours in the gym. Why aren’t I seeing progress?”
What do you do when you’re putting in the effort, but nothing seems to be working?
I’ve been there more times than I can count, and I know it’s probably one of the most frustrating situations to be in—whether it’s in fitness, work, or life.
It makes you want to quit.
To throw in the towel and say, “Why bother?”
If I’m doing everything right but not getting results, why not just stop trying and live it up?
If that’s where your mind goes, let’s pause for a second.
It’s not only about the end result.
It’s about the process.
The process should make you feel better, help you grow, and improve your life in more ways than just reaching your body composition goals. If your process doesn’t do those things, that’s a red flag you’re on the wrong track.
But let’s be real—getting results is important too, right? So let’s break down why you might not be seeing them yet.
From my experience, there are 3 key reasons:
1. You need to be more patient.
I know—this one sucks to hear. But real, sustainable results take time.
We often jump from one program or diet to the next because the results aren’t happening fast enough. I’ve been guilty of that too, but the truth is, if you want results that last, it’s going to take longer than you think.
Instead of focusing on quick wins, give yourself months to see real progress. As long as you’re doing the right things, you’ll get there.
2. You need to be more consistent.
Sometimes we think we’re doing everything right, but in reality, we aren’t as consistent as we believe.
I call this the “onion effect”—once you peel back the layers, you’ll often find gaps in your consistency.
For example, I used to think I was doing everything perfectly, but I was conveniently ignoring those weekend trips to the brewery and over-indulgent date nights that kept setting me back.
You don’t need to be perfect, but you do need to be honest with yourself about how consistent you really are.
3. You need to do the opposite of what you’ve been doing.
If you’ve been consistent but still aren’t seeing results, it might be time to switch things up.
If you’ve been under-eating, try doing the opposite for a while. Sometimes a new stimulus is exactly what your body needs.
If you’re always pushing yourself too hard, try easing up and watch how your progress improves.
